Benzyl benzoate 250 mg/mL in an oil in water emulsion.
Ectoparasiticidal preparation.
Treatment of scabies and body pediculosis.
Examinations should be made a week after the last treatment to confirm disinfestation.
Care must be taken to prevent Ascabiol entering the eyes. If contact occurs accidentally, flush eyes with water.
Use in Children
Ascabiol can be diluted with an equal quantity of water for children under 12 years of age, and with three parts of water for babies.
Ascabiol may occasionally cause skin sensitisation, i.e. skin irritation and a temporary burning sensation. It should be tested on a small area of skin for 10 minutes before general application . If excessive stinging occurs, it should be diluted with an equal quantity of water, then retested before using.
If this preparation is accidentally taken by mouth, treatment should consist of gastric lavage or the administration of an emetic. An anticonvulsant should be given if necessary, otherwise treatment is symptomatic.
Scabies
The patient is lightly scrubbed all over in a hot bath to open up the burrows and immediately after drying thoroughly, is painted over the body below the head with a painter's brush, followed 24 hours later by another hot bath. One treatment should suffice if the application is thorough. A second treatment after 5 days is required if there are still live mites present.
Pediculosis
The affected region is coated with Ascabiol using a painter's brush followed 24 hours later by a wash with soap and water. Treatment may be repeated after 7 days if there is evidence of living lice. In severe cases this may be repeated 2 or 3 times.
Emulsion: 200 mL.
Store below 25oC
The importance of complete sterilisation of bedding and clothing should be emphasised.
