Definition: A disorder of the arteries supplying the upper and lower extremity and the visceral organs. This includes the mesenteric arteries, the renal arteries and the aorta. This excludes cerebrovascular arterial disease. This is defined as any one of the following: Claudication, either with exertion or at rest, amputation for arterial vascular insufficiency, vascular reconstruction, bypass surgery, or percutaneous intervention to the extremities, documented aortic aneurysm with or without repair, vascular angiography demonstrating a 50% or greater stenosis of a major peripheral arterial vessel, positive noninvasive test for peripheral arterial disease, including an ankle-brachial index less than or equal to 0.9, ultrasound, magnetic resonance or computed tomography imaging demonstrating a 50% or greater stenosis of a major peripheral arterial vessel.
