Necrotising fasciitis

Definition: Infection of the deep skin and subcutaneous tissues and necrosis of the fascia. It is caused by bacteria including group A streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens. It may develop following trauma and invasive procedures.
