Temporal arteritis

Definition: An autoimmune, systemic, giant cell granulomatous arteritis predominantly involving the arteries that supply blood to the central nervous system, head and eyes. Superficial arteries of the scalp that are involved tend to be enlarged and tender. Signs and symptoms include headaches, myalgias, visual disturbances, and skin necrosis.
