Benign neoplasm

Definition: A general term used to describe autonomous growth of tissue where the originating cell type has not been characterized. The term benign indicates the absence of morphologic features associated with malignancy (for instance severe atypia, nuclear pleomorphism, tumor cell necrosis, and abnormal mitoses).
