Definition: A laboratory finding indicating decreased number of hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. It may result from decreased proliferation of all or part of the hematopoietic series (erythroid, myeloid, and megakaryocytic). Microscopically, the hematopoietic cells are replaced by adipocytes.
